About the Artist

Dóra was born and raised in Iceland, and is very proud og her Icelandic heritage.  Her artistic interest derives partly from her Mother's side of the family, her Mom being a well respected artist in Iceland.

In her early 20's she moved to the U.S. to attend college at Michigan University. Simultaneously, she designed and produced her own line of Table-Top Linens, that were retailed at Lord and Taylor, Marshall Field's and other Department Stores.

She later completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts Fegree in Interior Design.  It was during that training that she discovered an aptitude for painting.

But it wasn't until she was 36 that she began painting in earnest.  Her subjects are mostly floral, and produced in the Style of Realism.  Her medium is acrylic on canvas, which is well suited for the vivid colors she employs.

She photographs all of her subjects in preparation for painting.  Like most photographers, her quest is to capture elusive moments in time that reveal otherwise overlooked beauty in nature, and is especially aware of the fleeting effect of perfect lighting.

Then it's on to the challenging quest of translating that essence into a large scale painting.  Dóra's subjects also include occasional portraits of people and pets.

Dóra resides in San Diego with her husband of 30 years.  They have a grown son living in Michigan.

She has decided to make some of her art available only through this website.
